Sterling Silver Chip Inlay Technique. 3.5 X 2.26. Will accept a belt of up to 1.4. 56.7 grams = 1.82 Troy ounces.
100% of all Coral and Turquoise Chip Inlay is intact. This is a wonderful old Belt Buckle that was made by a Navajo silversmith perhaps 40-50 years ago. It is signed with a "C" (or crescent moon) hallmark on the back of the buckle. It is also marked "IHMSS" (Indian Hand Made Sterling Silver), and is guaranteed to be Sterling Silver and authentic.
It was most likely made in the late 60's or the 70's. It looks like it has been worn gently and had a deep tarnish and some light scratches. I had my jeweler give it "tune up". I have examined the components very carefully and found no condition issues with the chip inlay.
It is all stable and solid. No dents, noteable scratches, etc. Consider this an opportunity to own an great and interesting old Navajo Buckle.
Sterling Silver Overlay, Coral and Turquoise Chip Inlay, Stamping, and a Kingman Mine Turquoise cabochon surrounded by a rope-work bezel in a shadowbox format. It is Extra Large in size and it sparkles! In the 1930's, the University of Northern Arizona helped Hopi silversmiths develop a unique style and technique to differentiate themselves from the Navajos. It involves bonding of two formerly distinct sheets of Sterling Silver and is known as Silver Overlay. For decades, the Hopi have excelled at this and to some it defines the Hopi Style. As the Navajo say, Walk in beauty! I thank You and look forward to sharing a good experience! "AMERICAN INDIAN JEWELRY I" - Gregory Schaaf - pages.
